The dramatic story of a lost dog and the adventurous people who love him.
At last! A high-powered romance novel for animal lovers!

When the handsome Mark Whittier finds a lost Greyhound on the mountain, he has no clue that his life is about to change forever. But, Felicia McCrory - dynamic and opinionated - can see all the way to the finish line. So, a book for Greyhound lovers who will recognise all the traits of the breed and understand the love relationship they generate. But equally, all animal lovers will find this a stimulating and thought provoking story.

High Stakes is a good read. The story rattles on apace, the sex is explicit enough to match the passions of top level racing and the sub text of Animal Welfare v Animal Rights is thoughtfully developed. Indeed, author Ron Hevener deserves the thanks of all animal lovers in addressing this subject head-on.

While this is a novel and reflects the greyhound racing industry in America it has a real message for the UK. Are those who claim to be acting to secure Animal Rights actually living a public lie? How is it that the same stories of animal cruelty keep cropping up in the media and why are they so easily believed? Why is there no greyhound racing on UK terrestrial television anymore? Did you know that some animal rights activists, far from caring about animals, actually want to see all forms of animal husbandry eliminated and the keeping of all pets banned?

In the UK we have recently seen the formation of the Countryside Alliance - a group of people with very diverse interests and backgrounds - but united in their fear that a relatively small group of activists neither understands or cares about animal welfare in its broadest sense and is determined to destroy their way of life. We have also seen the evil of the terror campaign waged against animal research establishments and the people who work in or are associated with them.

So, a topical subject which Ron Hevener tries to put into some modern perspective.

The 600 page novel includes an appendix of documented animal rights terrorist acts dating back to 1984. If anyone has ever doubted what the real motivation of the animal rights movement is all about, they will never again wonder after reading Ron Hevener's "HIGH STAKES!"

"A very interesting read and a must for any animal lover...as the activist subject is not only one that plagues the Greyhound industry but is an underlying threat to all animal owners. Mr. Hevener not only weaves a breath taking tale, but nailed the activist groups right on the head."
