The British love their pets and most of us during a lifetime will own a dog or a cat. Pets provide us with companionship, warmth and often a reason to get up in the morning.
A brightly coloured budgie in a cage, a house rabbit or even a guinea pig, gives us something to talk to even on the darkest of our days.
A dog will give us a good reason to go out and get that much needed exercise and a warm cat on your lap, can ease the most lonely and unhappy feelings.
Most of you have a story to tell about your pets. Send them to me to share with the world. If you can, illustrate them with a good photo or drawing.
