Can-Am
Lazy Sunday
The 2003 rally season is now getting well under way and your editor
has found something a little different to attend in May, a rally catering
for mainly for North American vehicles.
The
Can-Am Car Club is one of the older Clubs in the Country catering for
American Cars and was founded back in the 1970`s by a group of enthusiasts
who wished to spread the word about the fine vehicles manufactured on
the other side of the Atlantic. 'Hot rods' are also catered for.
The Club is recognised by Insurance Companies and DVLA for age and
valuation purposes and the membership stretches from Cornwall to Glasgow
and beyond. This is not the largest of clubs but you would be hard put
to find a more friendly, helpful and enthusiastic bunch of people who
take their hobby very seriously. The Club puts on two shows during the
year, the low key and very friendly "Lazy Sunday" held on
the last Sunday of May at St.Edwards School, Poole, Dorset and their
National Rally which will be held on Sunday August 31st next at the
Bournemouth Sports Club, Chapel Gate, Parley, Dorset, this is next to
the airport just off the A338. This show is an absolute must for those
of you in Southern England with a love of American Cars.

Art! Hudson goes face to face with two Cadillacs
A good turn out attended the Lazy Sunday with 80 to 100 vehicles coming
and going during the day, the majority of which had been restored to
a very high standard indeed. The weather was very kind, plenty of sun,
just occasional clouds and a light wind.
A number of British produced cars also attended, the oldest of which
was a pre-war Morris 8 Saloon
Amongst
the many cars on display was a fine pre-war Hudson Sedan, a mint Chevrolet
Bel Air, a vehicle much loved by your editor!, a stunning post war Cadillac
with fantastic Chrome and visor over the windshield, an excellent Chrysler
300 of 1960 vintage, a Buick Electra and also the Invicta of the same
age, a nice 1950`s DeSoto - quite rare in this Country, a Ford Edsel,
an absolute disaster for Ford when it was made but now highly collectable
and sought after, a very smart Chevrolet Corvette, Pontiac Trans-am`s
and Ford's popular "pony" the Mustang, a very nice late 1960`s
example with narrow white wall tyres was on show. For those of you that
love big fins a number of Cadillac models were also on view to be drooled
over.

Cadillac & the infamous Ford Edsel
