The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

Where Mobility Matters

Since 1931 Guide Dogs has transformed the lives of thousands of blind and partially sighted people through the provision of guide dogs, mobility and other rehabilitation services.

Life takes on a whole new meaning when someone who is visually impaired trains to use a guide dog. They can get out and about when and where they want, without having to rely on friends and family. Travelling to and from work, shopping trips or walks to the local park become a pleasure, not a trial.

Guide Dogs main work is, and always will be, the training and provision of guide dogs. But we also provide a huge range of other services which help blind and partially sighted people towards even greater independence and freedom. These include long cane training, and help with daily living skills.

Qualified rehabilitation workers provide expert advice on daily living skills such as reading and writing using special magnifiers, computer technology, and Braille and Moon. We are also one of the UK's largest contributors to research into ophthalmic disease.

To achieve all this we receive no Government funding for our Guide Dog service. We depend on the generosity of those who donate money, volunteer their time to help fundraise or become puppy walkers or choose to remember Guide dogs with a gift in their Will.

Guide Dogs' mission is to provide guide dogs, mobility and other rehabilitation services that meet the needs of blind and partially sighted people. We are committed to making a world in which all people who are blind or partially sighted can enjoy the same rights, opportunities and responsibilities as everyone else.
