About Age Concern

Age Concern cares about all older people and believes that later life should be fulfilling and enjoyable.

But for too many people this is impossible.   Problems such as inadequate income and housing make their lives a misery.   Worries about issues such as long-term care cause great anxiety.   Lack of accessible transport, shopping and leisure facilities can leave people housebound and isolated.   Negative attitudes and stereotypes often mean they are not valued in their communities.

As the leading national charitable movement concerned with ageing and older people, embracing 1400 local Age Concern organisations and over 100 national organisations (including the main professional bodies and pensioner organisations),  Age Concern finds effective ways to deal with these issues.

Nationally, we take a lead role in campaigning, parliamentary work, policy analysis, research, specialist information and advice provision, publishing and training in the care of older people.

Where possible, we enable older people to solve problems themselves, providing as much or as little support as they need.   Our network of local organisations, supported by 250,000 volunteers, provides community-based services such as lunch clubs, day centres and home visiting.

Activities also include innovative programmes that promote healthier lifestyles, provide older people with opportunities to give the experience of a lifetime back to their communities and allow them to remain independent in their own homes.

Life contains many uncertainties but one thing we can all be sure of – each day of our lives we get older.   Age Concern is there for the millions of older people who need our help and advice today.   With your support we will continue to be here for the millions who will need us in the future.
