This new book is a very personal insight into one mans attempt to come to terms with the loss of his wife through cancer in November of 2000 following a happy marriage of 39 years. Obviously a man who was used to being in control of his life - and, one suspects, his emotions - his loss affected him much more than he could have imagined. Written over a period of seven months it describes his thoughts, his initial rejection of counselling, the reaction of friends and family and his struggle to understand and eventually to come to terms with his grief. We all perceive and handle grief in our own way. This book will not lessen the effects of our loss but could certainly help in our understanding of other peoples reaction to loss. Indeed, in this reviewers opinion, the book might be even more valuable to friends and family in helping them to understand the mental process which accompanies such loss.
