Lawnmowers and Shredders

Lawnmowers

The type of lawnmower that is suitable for you will depend on the size of your lawn.

  • Electric lawn mowers are quiet, lightweight and easy to use. They are ideal for smaller gardens where an electricity supply is close at hand

  • Smaller tractor mowers are suitable for Orchard & Paddock areas of up to 1 acre.

  • Tractor mowers with 105cm/41" decks are for those people requiring extra power for tougher, larger areas of up to 3 acres.

Ask for advice from the salesperson if you are new to buying mowers, and bear in mind the need for lifting the mower over obstacles such as borders. We have a very large lawn and I have a ride on tractor that lives in the outbuildings at the bottom of the garden, with level ground at all access points. It takes me just half an hour to do our lawn, but it would take two or three hours with a flymo. So make sure you get the right tool for the job...

Shredders

I wouldn`t be without my two shredders, one of which shreds small branches from shrubs, hedges and trees that would otherwise be thrown away or burned. The second one is for leafy perennial waste. I find shredding very therapeutic...

It pays to buy the best you can afford. You could get a cheap shredder that would be forever breaking down and do an inferior job. I have had a Bosch quiet shredder with a 2000 watt motor for years now. It wasn't the cheapest but was worth every penny. It appears indestructible.  This is a good company Garden Lines for shredders at reasonable prices...

It is quite late in the season to be buying lawnmowers and shredders, so you may be able to pick up an end of season bargain. Have a hunt around on the internet...
