'His place is assured in the
Easy Listening Hall Of Fame.' Q Magazine
The Essential Perry Como
Released 6th October 2003; Jive (82876560172) 24 Swingin' Tracks From One Of The Coolest Of Them All As far as Easy Listening is concerned - Perry Como is right up there with Frank, Dean, Tony and the rest of them. The Essential Perry Como is the modern lounge fan's guide to one of the greatest, warmest, coolest voices of them all. Packed with no less than 24 classic Como songs on a single CD, The Essential Perry Como spans Perry's hit-making career from 'Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes' and 'Magic Moments' (UK No.1 hit singles in 1952 and 1958 respectively) to 1971's 'It's Impossible' (a No. 4 Hit in the UK). Some of the great standards of Easy such as 'Moon River' and 'I've Got You Under My Skin' are given Perry's liquid gold treatment, whilst the humorous side of Perry's repertoire is showcased with the classics, 'Hot Diggity' and 'Papa Loves Mambo' (recently featured in the movie 'Oceans Eleven').

THE BEST OF TIMES Of all the classic American crooners, Perry Como was noted as one of the true gentlemen of the easy listening era and his level of success was nothing less than astonishing. Not only did Como have an untouchable recording and TV career (14 Top 10 UK hit singles between 1953 and 1973; 29 albums recorded between 1953 and 1993 and his own TV show, 'The Chesterfield Supper Club') but Perry was also hugely respected by his peers: Bing Crosby famously quoted Perry Como as 'The man who invented casual' and Mel Torme described him as 'one of the most immaculate singers in our business'. When Perry Como died peacefully on 12th May 2001 he left a musical legacy that will be loved by generations of fans. Today the 'lounge cool' scene which Perry helped to create is as big as it has ever been and artists such as Andy Williams and Tony Bennett are still playing to a devoted new audience of trendy late 20's / early 30's fans who want their music served with style. In London the Kitsch Lounge Riot club is enjoying huge popularity and has been described by the Evening Standard as 'a chic retreat for London's cool lounge clubbers' - the club night is currently exploding across the UK - and Perry Como is always on the playlist. So kick back and get smooth with one of the best in the game.
