Gentleman Jim
The Definitive Jim Reeves Collection

Almost 40 years after country legend Jim Reeves' untimely death, Gentleman Jim - The Definitive Jim Reeves Collection (RCA) has gone straight into the album charts at no. 21. In it's first week the album sold over 10,000 copies, falling just shy of a Top 20 debut and outselling Coldplay by over 2000 records - proving that the oldies are still the best!

Gentleman Jim - The Definitive Jim Reeves Collection is packed with Jim Reeves' most successful UK and US chart singles. The album features 22 UK and 22 US chart toppers apiece, with no less than 6 UK top 10 hits: 'Welcome To My World', 'I Love You Because', 'I Won't Forget You', 'There's A
Heartache Following Me', 'It Hurts So Much (To See You Go)' and the posthumous No.1 single 'Distant Drums'.

In addition, an additional 5 live tracks are included on the album. They were recorded in Norway as part of the 'Nashville Stars On Tour' in his final year. None have been commercially available on CD before.

Initially a talented athlete who played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals before suffering an ankle injury which ended his sports career. He became a DJ and newsreader on a local Texas radio station before getting his big break, standing in for a absent Hank Williams. A recording contract followed and the gold disks started to pile up.

'Gentleman Jim' was nothing less than a global mega-star in his day who was renowned for his crooning, honey-toned vocals. He brought country music to a new generation who preferred Frank Sinatra to Hank Williams. Reeves enjoyed enormous chart success on both sides of the Atlantic; in the UK alone he achieved 19 top twenty singles and 25 top twenty albums.

He was posthumously elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame following his death at the age of only 39 in a light plane crash near his home in Nashville on 31st. July 1964.

'Gentleman Jim - The Definitive Jim Reeves Collection' really is just that. A perfect gift for any fans who might need their vinyl updating or the ideal introduction to listeners eager to hear one of the golden voices of a past generation. You can expect to pay around £15 for the double CD (please note this figure will vary between retailers).
