The Bird Table

I pull the curtains back to view
A cold misty winter’s day.
Peering through the frosty glass
I see my favourite sight
The bird table near the cherry tree,
Down the garden in the murky light.
A robin shows a bright red breast
A blue tit pecks the seed.
Starlings hang and chew the fat.
What a sight indeed!
Fat pigeons preen and strut their stuff
All self- important and puff.
Starlings swing like acrobats
Their trapeze a hanging vine.
So much to see, so little time.
I rush to catch my bus.
Work calls unlike the birds.
They have more time than us!
