The Lost Crown

The whole of Pixie land was in an uproar.

Here it was only a week to the Spring Ball and the Pixie King’s crown was missing!

When the Queen Pixie had decided to take the King’s suit to the cleaners for it’s annual dry-clean, she thought that his crown would probably need a polish at the same time.   She looked on the top shelf of the wardrobe but there was no sign of it.   She searched everywhere in the bedroom and when she couldn’t find it, well, the whole of pixie village could here her voice all the way from the Pixie palace.

“ You must know where you put it dear. Oh dear! You are always losing something. Last week it was your best shoes and we had to stay in until we found them and the week before you lost your best coat”.

The poor king just could not understand it.   Last year after the Christmas ball, he was sure that he had put the crown back safely on the top shelf of his wardrobe where it should still be.

The king called an urgent meeting of all the senior pixies.

“My crown must be found. Never in all the history of Pixie land has the Pixie King gone to the Spring Ball without his crown, it is quite unthinkable.  The crown must be found”.

For the next couple of days, Pixies rushed everywhere.   In their haste to find the missing crown they  tripped over each other and kept getting in each other’s way. It was a great deal of fun but alas, no crown was found.

The Pixie children were given a week off school so they could help with the search.

They laughed and ran around a lot but still the King’s crown was not found.  The King had a large notice pinned to the biggest tree in Pixie Dell.  Everyone crowded around to read what it said.

‘By order of the King.  The Spring ball will be cancelled if my crown is not found’.

Everyone gasped with dismay.   This was terrible.   The Spring ball was one of the biggest events in the Pixie year and everyone had already bought their new clothes and they were looking forward to a wonderful evening dancing and eating all the delicious foods that the Palace cooks were so busy preparing.   One last desperate search was hurriedly organised.

The Pixies looked everywhere.   One Pixie Grandad walked so far that he got so tired he had to sit down on a grassy mound to rest his tired feet for a while.   It was not very comfortable, something sharp stuck into him so he got up and had a closer look.

To his amazement, he saw that the grassy hill was really the King’s crown all covered in grass and daisies.   Happily Grandad pixie carried the crown to the palace where the overjoyed king ,gave him two pieces of gold for being so clever.

Nobody knew how the crown came to be in Pixie dell all covered in grass. It really was a great mystery.   The king however, suddenly  remembered that the crown had got really heavy when he was dancing at the Christmas ball and had made his head hurt so he had put it down on the ground just for a minute and there it must have stayed until now.

The king didn’t want anyone to know just how forgetful he had become so he told no one

So to this very day in Pixie land it remains a mystery how the king’s crown was so nearly lost for ever.  The king however felt a little guilty that he had told no one about his forgetfulness, not even the queen, so he decided that all Pixie children, should have one day a year when they don’t have to go to school.

They play ‘Hunt the King’s Crown’ and the pixie who finds it gets two pieces of gold for being so clever.   This day has become even more popular than the Pixie ball, and the pixie children are very glad that the king lost his crown and then found it again.

Don't miss the fun!
