Terry the supermarket trolley shivered in the cold and the rain.
He was parked in a dark corner, tucked away and almost hidden from sight.
Nobody ever used Terry to collect their shopping because they headed
straight for the entrance to the big supermarket where most of the shiny
new trollies were parked.
Terry was a very sad trolley. He stood in his dark corner day after
day, just hoping someone would take him into the bright warm shop, but
nobody ever did.
It was nearly Christmas and every day the supermarket had been very
busy, with people buying all the Christmas presents and food. Today
it seemed that everyone had come to do their shopping and gradually
all the trollies were taken from the front of the shop.
“Where are all the trollies Mum?” Terry heard a child’s voice. “Here’s
one, look I have found a nice one round this corner”
Terry was pulled out of his dark corner and pushed into the big, bright,
noisy shop.
Beautiful Christmas decorations were hung everywhere. Lights flashed
on a big tree and music played loudly. It was hot, busy and very exciting
to Terry who had never seen the inside of the shop. His family pushed
him up and down the aisles collecting wonderful Christmas goodies.
A big iced Christmas cake with a red bow, a Christmas pudding full
of fruit mince pies, lovely chocolates, sweets and a big box of red,
blue and green crackers all went into the trolley. Terry really enjoyed
his trip around the shop.
When Father had emptied all of the shopping from Terry and put it in
the boot of his car, he pushed him back outside the shop again.
“Here is a nice trolley” another voice called and off he went again.
This time he was filled with apples, oranges, bananas and a great big
basket of mixed nuts.
All day long Terry was in and out of the shop being filled and emptied
and he had never been so happy.
When the shop closed very late that night and all the lights were turned
off, Terry was very glad to have a rest. He was so tired that his wheels
had started to squeak, but he was looking forward to the next day when
he would be busy again and carry lots more shopping for lots of happy
people.
