Sally-Ann Visits The Farm

Danny was only a little car.   Once he had been a bright shiny red, his headlamps had shone and his seats had been clean and sweet smelling.    A tear rolled down Danny’s dirty paintwork, followed by another and another.   Danny was a very unhappy little car.

“I hate living in this garage all the time” he moaned to himself.

“Don’t be sad” squeaked the family of mice that were nesting in some old hay in the corner.

“We like to talk to you and when it is very cold, we can sleep inside on your warm seats”

Danny liked the little family but they didn’t understand.   “You can all go outside any time you want some fresh air but I must stay here all the time.   I miss going along the road with my horn blowing and the wind on my bonnet.   Nobody ever wants to drive me now and that makes me very sad”  Danny started to cry again so loudly that he almost didn’t hear the garage door open.

“Look Daddy, look at this beautiful car.”  Danny stopped crying and started to listen.   A girl and a little boy were talking to their Daddy about him.   Danny strained to hear every word.

“Daddy, the car could take us to the seaside and to the country and shopping and to see Granny---”

“ Hold on a minute” came the deep voice of Daddy.   “ This little car might not have an engine that works, I will have to have a good look first before we make any plans”.

Danny was thrilled when Daddy rolled him out of the garage.   While Daddy was looking at all the engine parts and checking the petrol and the tyres, the two children got buckets of soapy water. They had great fun washing Danny and then they helped Mummy polish him all over.

Danny felt sad again when he was returned to the garage but he cheered up when he heard Daddy say.   “I don’t think there is anything much wrong with this little car but I will have to go to the garage tomorrow, buy a new battery and see if I can get it to start”

The next day, Danny was pushed out of the garage again into the bright sunshine.   He felt so happy that he wished cars could sing.    Finally, Daddy came back from the garage with a new battery, which he quickly fitted into Danny’s engine.

“Right” he said sitting in the drivers seat,  “Let’s see if our little car will be taking us on lots of journeys”

Danny thought his heart would burst with joy when his engine started first time.

“Get in children” Daddy changed gear and they were off!

It was a wonderful day.  Danny felt the wind on his bonnet as he went down hills and he felt the warm sun as he climbed up hills.  He was so happy to be out, that he almost forgot to let Daddy know he needed to buy more petrol.

When they all got home, Danny was very happy to go back into the garage.   It had been such fun but he was tired and besides, he wanted to tell the family of mice all about his adventures.

“Goodnight little car, see you tomorrow “ the two children patted his bonnet and the door closed.

“Right then, who wants to hear all about my day. I have been to the country and the petrol station and the seaside!”  The mice all listened with big round eyes, as a very happy Danny told his story.

Don't miss the fun!
