CHOICES FOR LATER LIFE

By Marie Lacheze

ISBN 0 7499 2699 6

Price: £9.99 paperback

Marie Lacheze takes a practical and realistic approach to the life choices and new opportunities that face us when we reach our fifties and beyond. She appreciates that the Over 50's are both capable of thinking for themselves, and often resentful of anyone - however well meaning - telling them what they should do!

Based on interviews, the book makes original, constructive suggestions to help you make the right decisions for you. It goes well beyond pensions and health care to address some very sensitive issues such as not really enjoying dealing with children who do not share our values, friends who are unreliable, the pressure to look and behave young. It examines all the options available and sets out their consequences rather than giving advice. Topics cover:

* Anticipating changing circumstances
* Deciding where to live
* Managing your finances
* Dealing with elderly parents
* Dealing with past regrets
* Living alone
* Balancing friends and family

In her book the author hopes to give a sense of identity to the age group 50 -75, at present lumped together with the very old whose needs and aspirations are quite different, and to encourage this group to make its voice heard.

I found the author's approach both refreshing and intelligent. 'Choices for Later Life' will certainly be helpful to anyone who is taking a rational look at their 'senior' lifestyle.

About the author

Marie Lacheze is bilingual English/French and has spent the last 15 years travelling throughout Europe, Asia and the USA as a consultant training managers in communication and problem-solving. She now leads a number of local focus groups and this, together with her wide network of contacts, enables her to research and engage with the concerns of many people in their later years.
